About
Hi,
Please visit my homepage: http://paulinehopecheong.com
I'm Associate Professor of New media and Intercultural communication at Arizona State University, where i currently teach and research the social implications of communication technologies, particularly on access and power issues related to the digital divide and social capital building.
My research foci are on minority ethnic, religious populations and vulnerable subcultures, including youths, the medically at risk, and new immigrants.
Because my intercultural and new media research is inherently interdisciplinary, drawing upon sociology, critical studies, religious studies as well as new media domain specific content, I have worked to build bridges through cross-disciplinary collaborations, development of online and hybrid classes, presentation in national and international venues, and publication in multiple fields and formats.
I am currently affiliated with the Center of the Study of Religion and Conflict, the Department of Justice and Social Inquiry, and the Department of Film and Media Studies, at Arizona State University.
I am also part of the Consortium of Strategic Communication, a strategic initiative of the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication, where i am co-investigator of a large grant project on extremist narratives, and the role of new media in the diffusion of radical religious stories.
